Ghostrider aka Patrik Fürstenhoff
French Reportage
Ghost Rider is the alias used by a famous but controversial Swedish motorcycle stuntman. Wearing a black leather suit, black helmet and dark visor, and riding a black motorcycle (usually a Suzuki GSX-R1000 or Hayabusa), he is the main character in several movies showing his real-life motorcycle stunts performed on public roads at high speeds and with blantant disrespect for the police and his own safety, usually in Stockholm and nearby locations, but also in other places in Europe.
In November 2005, the Swedish magazine Slitz published an interview with the (alleged) Ghost Rider, "a talkative foreign stunt rider nearly 40 years old."
In an interview with PB Magazine, one Patrik Furstenhoff has claimed to be the real Ghost Rider. Furstenhoff holds the world record for the fastest wheelie on a motorcycle.
It has been alleged that Ghost Rider is in reality several people under the same alias. Unverified but fairly widespread, it is believed that motorcycle racer Joakim Karlsson a.k.a. Iceman was one of the actors playing the character, although he never declared such a thing himself, at least not in a way that can be verified and referenced. Karlsson lost his life in May 2005 during the Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) race.
That Ghost Rider's true identity is in disarray is no doubt deliberate and quite understandable - Ghost Rider performs his stunts (high speed races usually) on public roads, in violation of the law. But the character Ghost Rider has a very distinct and clearly defined personality and is still as active today as almost a decade ago, and his popularity is growing, especially among sportbike riders. The confusion surrounding him is an integral part of the "show", much like a stage magician's aura of mystery, as indicated by the myths spawned by his character.
